- Abstract
- The paper focuses on a monumental typology that contradistinguishes Greece’s extra urban panhellenic sanctuaries. This article has been written with the intention to facilitate a better understanding regarding the purpose of these edifices in the light of literary and archaeological research. This analysis will lead to a discussion around the political and ideological role that these small monuments have had as venues for displaying famous items of great importance for the sanctuary’s cult of divinization, and also a discussion around the role of some structures that were inherited as gifts for the sanctuary’s divine power from various ‘poleis’, for some important political and military actions.
