This chapter analyzes the reproduction of images in L’Usage de la photo and Les Années Super 8, showing that Marc Marie’s and Philippe Ernaux’s photographs and film sequences question the power of representation. Annie Ernaux’s writing style reveals their limitations, explores what lies beyond the frame, and restores the richness of lived experience. By transforming the intimate into a shared experience with political implications, writing unveils reality and its permeating social structures, confirming the coherence of the writer’s literary project.
