Abstract
This paper aims at foregrounding destruction as a theme of research in and of itself. For it can be argued that the environmental movement itself is made of destruction: contestation emerges when a particular environment or land which people care for and hold onto, is in danger of being destroyed. Environmentalism is born of destruction, and to take into account both term can give a more radical edge to our own indeavour as researchers. The case is made on thesis of my ongoing research on the Port of Antwerp.
