- Within the field of Corpus Pragmatics, this paper presents the pragmatic annotation system developed and implemented in the sociolinguistic interview subcorpus of the Corpus for the Study of Spanish (ESLORA). The system enables the automatic retrieval of a selection of speech acts, including greetings and introductions, directive acts, others, different types of questions, and reported speech. Although most annotated corpora of Spanish and other languages incorporate morphosyntactic tagging systems that facilitate the retrieval of simple and complex linguistic units, pragmatic annotation remains relatively underdeveloped in corpus linguistics. This study therefore seeks to contribute to research on Spanish pragmatics by introducing a new annotation layer that supports different types of searches and allows for the automatic retrieval of speech acts, either independently or in combination with other linguistic units. The aim of the paper is thus to describe this pragmatic annotation system and to show its potential applications in pragmatic-discursive research and in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. In addition, it is hoped that both the linguistic design and the annotation procedures presented here may be replicated and adapted for implementation in other corpora.
