Abstract
The present contribution addresses the topic of how to design novel struc- tures in timber with the aid of a computational tool based on vector-based graphic statics (VGS) in a research-by-design approach. The context, scope and theoretical framework allowing to design strut-and-tie models in timber is explained. An ap- plication (design task given to Eng. Arch. students) is presented. The results concern the primary structure and joints, and are discussed regarding the initial objectives.
