(en) As an estimate of the value of learning and work, and therefore of the persons who conduct them, qualification is a important social issue. It is at the heart of issues critical to the way of people are economically and socially integrated:: the objectives of education and training, professional identity, organization of labor, etc.. It involves different categories of actors involved in dissemination, assessement and recognition of learning, i.e. education institutions, vocational training providers, social partners and governments. This research raises the question of the renewal of qualification issue by a particular device, the "validation of competences" device in French community of Belgium. A grounded theory emerged of the inductive and comparative approach adopted. This theory assumes that the current stakes of qualification have to be situated in-between the already-existing areas where learning is valorised: validating the "true" competences of people, the device works on the interorganisational recognition of competences. By producing adjustments between different logics of action in tension in these areas of debate, the actors involved in the validation of competences are working on the continuities and discontinuities between areas of qualification.
