(en) Since the Spatial Turn of the 1990s, space has taken on a central role in both the sciences and the arts. The concept of dwelling, in particular, has become central in contemporary discussions. Moreover, according to Fredric Jameson, science fiction has a constitutive relationship with space. How does this manifest in the publications of La Volte, a publishing house at the crossroads of science fiction and general literature? Our analysis will be based on what Manon Delcour refers to as the “devices [dispositifs] of dwelling” (ranging from the home as a whole to elements such as windows, rooms, and walls). The notion of a device allows us to conceive of the home not as a static, completed structure, but as a dynamic process that foregrounds the role of agents and the relations between them. We will examine this question through three novels published by La Volte – Les Furtifs (Damasio), Un souvenir de Loti (Curval), and Melmoth furieux (Calvo) – as well as the short story Babel Kong (Damasio). Our aim is not only to conduct a literary analysis of these texts but also to show how they can serve as a foundation for a philosophical reflection on dwelling.
