Abstract
Part of the Aiano-Torraccia di Chiusi Roman villa mortar floor with mosaic inlays has been restored for the first time during the 2017 summer excavations led by Université catholique de Louvain. The floor, paving the trilobate hall, can be dated between the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 5th century AD and it was already published in the AISCOM proceedings. The intervention was limited to a small part of the floor only, in order to develop the best method to be applied in the future to the whole artifact. The conservation treatment followed the common practice and the good conservation of the rest of the floor was ensured by a minimum intervention, to allow the seasonal covering. Some archaeometric analysis have been carried out and some observations about the manufacturing technique are presented here, focusing on pictorial finishing.
