(en) [Psychobiotics, the future treatment for depression?] The intestinal microbiota plays an essential role in digestion, protection against pathogenic organisms, and emotional and behavioral balance. The results of several clinical studies show that psychobiotics may have an effect on depression, although the underlying mechanisms are still far from elucidated. More preclinical and clinical studies could support the use of these beneficial bacteria in cases of low morale.
