Abstract
(en) Going through a lot of written works on contemporary catechesis, one needs to take into account the necessity of considering catechesis in its specificity and/or in its articulation with one or many other ecclesial functions. One arrives at such affirmations as these: catechesis is not everything. Everything is not catechesis. Catechesis cannot be isolated or separated from other ecclesial functions, especially the diaconate and/or the liturgy or again, catechesis is intimately linked with other elements of evangelization. The present research brings out clearly the answers which have been given by the documents and articles of researchers to the questions that could be posed: can catechesis keep its specificity and be, at once, in relation with other ecclesial functions? What exactly distinguishes catechesis from other forms of the ministry of the word and other ecclesial functions? What explains its relations or its links with other ecclesial functions? This study limits itself to the writings of these three contexts: the French-Speaking Belgium, France and Italy. Beside these questions which have guided the research, others have equally come up in the course of the work. They are the subjects of the confrontation with some important catechesis manuals of the French and Italian languages and have necessitated the taking of personal position. It is the case with the following questions: would there not be sufficient reasons to move from the tripartite classification of ecclesial functions to another classification? Would there not be catecheses which favour one of the dimensions of the Christian life more than others? What are the criteria which can come into play in the choice of the modality of the rapport between catechesis and some ecclesial functions or in the choice of an aspect of the Christian life on catechesis rather than another? Could teaching be still considered as the category which stands for the insertion of catechesis in the ministry of the word? In the light of the research carried out, several principles have been brought out. Among others, it is all about not cancelling the distinctions between catechesis and the other ecclesial forms because the latter have their pertinence. The non-absolutization of a dimension of the Christian life in catechesis is also one of the principles which have been underlined and made clear in this research. This has also drawn attention to the issues of some way of seeing the rapport of catechesis with the other forms or ecclesial functions. This study is meant to be not only a contribution to catechetic reflection but also to catechetic action itself. In fact, it offers some insights about a catechesis which is meant to be an activity of the church, at once distinct but not isolated from the other ecclesial actions. This study concerns also the other ecclesial actors bearing in mind the uniqueness of ecclesial mission in which every ecclesial actions partakes of in a specific manner.
