PURPOSE: Seizures produce autonomic symptoms, mainlysympathetic but also parasympathetic in origin. Withinthis context, the vagus nerve (VN) is a key player as it car-ries information from the different organs to the brainand vice versa. For this reason, exploiting the vagal neu-ral traffic with respect to seizures might offer a novel wayto detect seizures and develop a closed-loop Vagus NerveStimulation (VNS) system.
