(en) Texts of the limits, limit-texts, fictions that are partly autobiographical, what is more at varying degrees, these productions that could be gathered under the name “fictional writings of the self” represent a real test for criticism. In this article, starting from the observation of the relative absence of works tackling this particular type of text without dividing them into its “characterizations” (fictional and autobiographical), I will explain how this hybrid conception causes two major methodological challenges: on the one hand, conclusions that are often aporetic; on the other hand, conceptual blurriness and an abundance of terminology, all of which cause a loss of reference points as well as an accumulation of reading. In the conclusion, I will outline some possible solutions.
