Kloza, Dariusz

Dr Dariusz (Darek) Kloza a senior researcher at the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherches constitutionnelles (CIRC) of UCLouvain Saint-Louis Bruxelles. His expertise concentrates on privacy and personal data protection law and practice. He has worked in particular on the behavioural alternative to the protection of privacy, data protection impact assessment (DPIA) and the right not to use the internet. Previously, he was a senior researcher at the Human Rights Centre (HRC) at Ghent University (2021-24) and a researcher at the Research Group on Law, Science, Technology and Society (LSTS; 2011-21) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), where he co-founded the Brussels Laboratory for Data Protection & Privacy Impact Assessments (d.pia.lab; 2015). He held in parallel a part-time research position at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO; 2015-17) and visiting fellowships in Australia (2016) and Cyprus (2022), among others. From 2022 to 2026, he worked concurrently as a senior data protection expert at the law firm Van Bael & Bellis (VBB). He holds a PhD in Law from the VUB (2019), an LL.M. in Law and Technology (2010) from Tilburg University (with distinction) and a master’s degree in law from the University of Białystok (2008), including a student exchange at the University of Copenhagen (2007-08). He pursues his interests in European integration as a freelancer at the University of Białystok (Poland), where he co-founded the Centre for Direct Democracy Studies (CDDS) and where he has co-edited book series on Current Debates in European Integration (Routledge, since 2023) and European Integration and Democracy (Intersentia, 2020-24).
