Abstract
This paper sets out to explore a number of typical features of informal spoken interactions in informal interviews with upper-intermediate to advanced EFL learners included in the Louvain International Database of Spoken English Interlanguage (LINDSEI, Gilquin et al. 2010). The features include, among others, some reduced and contracted forms, sentential relative clauses, evaluative adjectives and a series of discourse markers. Some of the features under study are also investigated in a comparable corpus of interviews with native speakers of English, the Louvain Corpus of Native English Conversation (LOCNEC, De Cock 2004). The paper also examines the impact of the interview format on some of the results and discusses some implications of the findings for English language teaching. De Cock, Sylvie 2004.
