Abstract
Commemorating the past seems to be a constant practice throughout the ages, as will become clear in this contribution. Here, I deal with the period from which we trace the origins of the so-called Old Testament literature. Notwithstanding the temporal distance between "Old Testament times" and the 21st century, it will become clear that the complexity of the concept "commemoration" has remained almost unchanged during the course of history.
