Abstract
(en) The Golden Rule: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” [Jesus] “Ethical or moral life is a requisite for humanity. It is born of people’s desire to give meaning to their deeds and to act for the best. Made up of rules for action, standards, values, virtues, representations of what is good and reasonable, it aims to make men more human, deploying their freedom in their relation with others, with themselves, with nature and with God. What we generally call ‘ethics’ is the science of human moral behaviour.” [Excerpt from the article ‘Ethics’]. With more than 200 articles written by 100 specialists in all disciplines (theologians, philosophers, historians, sociologists, psychoanalysts, scientists, etc.), this Dictionnaire encyclopédique d'éthique chrétienne embraces the many different notions linked to ethics and Christian moral reflection. Thanks to its historical, interdisciplinary and ecumenical approach, it offers a deeper comprehension of the debates in today’s society (family, euthanasia, cloning, communitarianism, ecology, globalization, etc.). Such fundamental Christian notions as grace, joy, love, hope and faith are also treated... All readers, not necessarily initiated, will gain from reading the exceptionally far-reaching selection of contributions.
