Abstract
Tan spot caused by P. tritici-repentis is widely distributed in commercial fields of winter and spring wheat in South, Southeast and North Kazakhstan. Incidence varies across growing zones according to wheat cultivars and cropping conditions. Race 1 of the pathogen fungi is the most frequent in Kazakhstan. Preliminary tests were conducted on a set of 20 genotypes using four races of P. tritici-repentis commonly reported worldwide : races 1,2, 3 and race 5. Since all 20 genotypes testes are susceptible to the most prevalent race, research efforts and resources are urgently needed to improve the genetic resistance in bread wheat breeding programs.
