Abstract
(en) The Bible for thinking. The prefaces to the first and second editions of the Römerbrief indicate that Barth is not content to think of the Bible: in "a tenacious desire to understand and explain" by which he relates the Bible to what it speaks of, Barth thinks with the Bible. By favouring the doctrine of inspiration over the critical method, Barth does not only distance himself from liberal theology; thanks to a gesture of hermeneutical content that anticipates some of Gadamer's intuitions, he once again raises the question of truth as a theologian. Beyond the spinozist turn of the radical Enlightenment in the second half of the 17th century, theology rediscovered the audacity to think in its time from the Bible and dared to measure itself once again against European culture. What significance can today's theology give to this event?
