Abstract
Transmitting a source text into a target language always implies, to a certain extent, that the translator has to interpret the text that is being translated. However, contemporary Bible translations regularly significantly deviate from the Hebrew text they pretend to render, even if the source text is not at all problematic. In the present contribution, Deut 9:24 will be analysed from this perspective. It will be argued that the rendering by several actual Bible translations seems to be influenced by the transmission history of the text, as it can be found in some of the ancient versiones.
