The Izvoarele Nerei-Semenic Nature Reserve, covering over 5,000 ha, is the most important massif of natural uneven-aged beech forests in the Carpathian Mountains "escaping" from the abusive and intensive logging activities carried out in the last four decades of the XX-th century. It represents a genuine scientific thesaurus for Silviculture therefore being researched for many years and by many research teams. The paper outlines some of the most important structural and dynamic peculiarities of uneven-aged beech forests in this reserve derived from the research activities carried out by a group of Romanian silviculturists in cooperation with the University of Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) as part of a bilateral project.
