- Autobiographical memories are personal experiences that an individual has had, while vicarious memories are those that have been experienced by someone else and are shared with the individual. In our study, we compare the phenomenology of autobiographical memories with the phenomenology of vicarious memories of partners, parents and grandparents in both older and younger participants. Our research explores how the phenomenology of these two types of memories differ between the older and younger participants. It also looks at how the individual's relationship with the source of the vicarious memory affects the way the memory is experienced
