This paper introduces an analytical design rule for reducing the excitation of the dominant TM₀ surface-wave mode by a circular electric-current ring above a grounded multilayer substrate. The cancellation condition is (J_1(\beta_{\mathrm{TM0}}R)=0), where (\beta_{\mathrm{TM0}}) is the propagation constant of the TM₀ mode and (R) is the ring radius. The first positive root gives (R=3.8317/\beta_{\mathrm{TM0}}). The paper develops a practical single-metal-layer antenna using series capacitive loading to approximate the required current distribution and validates the approach using simulations and W-band measurements on silicon and quartz substrates.
