Abstract
Photonic hooks (PHs) are a specific type of curved photonic nanojet with promising applications in various fields. In this work, we propose a hybrid microsphere lens group for the effective generation and flexible tuning of PHs. The influences of the inter-sphere separation, microsphere diameter, and refractive index configuration on the focal length, peak intensity, beam waist, and bending angle of PHs were systematically investigated. The PHs obtained with the proposed method exhibit higher intensity enhancement, a narrower beam waist, and a longer propagation length than those generated by a single patchy microsphere. The results may be useful for applications including optical microscopy, optical trapping, and microfabrication.
