Abstract
This workshop aims to address the means and conditions of communicating disinformation expertise in public debates. Disinformation – and, by extension, information – has become a major public concern. Research insights are sought for interviews, debates, seminars, and training sessions aimed at non-expert audiences, often with high expectations. However, for a disinformation expert, participating in public debates on disinformation is not straightforward. While this is obviously the case for every researcher who ‘popularize’ or ‘valorise’ their research beyond the scientific community, this workshop will explore in what ways communicating disinformation expertise may be specifically delicate, sensitive, and controversial – not only in terms of accessibility but also, for instance, in terms of social responsibility and political implications. In this workshop, participants will engage in a ‘diagnosis’ of the issues and challenges that they face and/or must take into consideration when talking about disinformation in public debate, and outline approaches, strategies, or even techniques that allow disinformation expertise to be voiced – and heard – in the public sphere.
