Abstract
Abstract: Learner corpus studies have increasingly been conducted on spoken learner interlanguage thanks to the growing availability of spoken learner corpora, some of which comprise interviews with L2 learners. This paper seeks to highlight the importance of carefully considering the specific make-up and context of collection of learner interview corpora. Drawing on insights from using the Louvain International Database of Spoken English Interlanguage (LINDSEI), the paper focuses on the following three key features of interview spoken learner corpora that cannot be overlooked in learner corpus research: an interview is not a naturally occurring conversation, an interview is led by an interviewer and an interview is often made up of more than one speaking task. Possible future spoken learner corpora developments are discussed.
