This article deals with the methods of collostructional analysis, which make it possible to investigate the words that typically occur in certain slots of one or more constructions (in the Construction Grammar sense). It describes the origin of collostructional analysis, its status as a usage-based approach, and the different methods it covers. Computation aspects are discussed, as well as techniques to analyze the output of the computation semantically, stylistically, or according to other features. It is also shown how collostructional analysis has evolved over the years, being applied to an increasing range of constructions, languages, and fields, and undergoing conceptual and methodological developments.
