Abstract
Charles Pence and Maxence Gaillard explore the conceptual and scientific genealogies of organoids, which are three-dimensional, stem cell-derived models that are self-organizing entities that replicate or mimic some structures and functions of a target organ. These distinct understandings in turn lead to different practices associated with their use as NAMs and have important implications for their potential to replace animal models in biomedical research.
