- The choice of a statistical technique is considered by many as pivotal to the outcome of a linguistic study: choose the right statistical technique, and you will obtain the right results. However, there are a number of steps that need to be taken before choosing a statistical technique and whose importance is such that they can make or break a study. For any study, these steps include reviewing relevant literature as well as formulating specific research questions and hypotheses. For corpus studies in particular, additional steps include data selection, data extraction, and data coding. Aspects to be considered in relation to each of these additional steps are outlined in this invited guest post.
