Abstract
Dyscalculia encompasses a range of difficulties in numerical processing and calculation. Among these, impairments in reading or writing Arabic numerals—known as number transcoding—represent a frequent and often underecognized challenge. This presentation will explore the cognitive mechanisms underlying transcoding, tracing their developmental trajectory and discussing both semantic and asemantic models. We will illustrate the types of transcoding difficulties observed in individuals with dyscalculia. Finally, we will present a detailed case study of an adult patient exhibiting severe difficulties in writing large Arabic numbers, highlighting the intervention strategies designed to support and improve her transcoding skills.
