Abstract
(en) The biblical narrator, sometimes through his characters, shows a great inclination to play on words. Among the many effects that this literary technique can produce is irony. This article aims to shed light on Genesis 30:25-43 through Genesis 27:1-40, two episodes renowned for their irony and containing puns on the names of the protagonists. We will thus see how, by fuelling and enhancing it as they appear and are repeated in the narratives, these puns ultimately shed new light on this episode, the meaning of which is not immediately apparent.
