- (en) In everyday language, the concept of irony has mainly retained its verbal dimension, which in the French-speaking tradition is inevitably associated with the idea of mockery. However, many of the words reported in direct speech in the biblical narrative are ironic without the speaker “mocking someone or something by saying the opposite of what [he] means.” In fact, these words are not verbal irony, but dramatic irony.
