- The present contribution offers a brief overview of the so-called Farmer Case, for which no judgment had been rendered yet at the time of writing, and oral pleadings did not even yet started. But this first lawsuit against a major oil company on grounds related to its liability towards climate change gives the opportunity to highlight the broader context in which such litigation arises, illustrating how courts are increasingly venturing into novel legal territory when called upon to assess the environmental conduct of major corporations and their impact on both ecosystems, populations and even individuals, including in Belgium.
