- (en) This paper revisits the usual narrative on Dāʾūd al-Qayṣarī’s life by bringing to light evidence that documents his stay in Ilkhanid Tabriz. Recent studies mention a connection with Ilkhanid Iran, where he would have met his master ʿAbd al-Razzāq Kāshānī, but with no substantiated details as to when and where this happened and how these events fit in his life. A document corroborated by evidence from other manuscripts, shows that the common narrative on Qayṣarī’s life (where links with Iran are almost entirely lacking) is untenable, and brings evidence to support the presence of Qayṣarī in Ilkhanid Tabriz. The new elements provided invite us to revise our perception of Qayṣarī’s oeuvre, in particular the idea that it was under the auspices of the nascent Ottoman power that it was written, and to investigate further the intellectual scene in Tabriz in the last years of the reign of Abu Sa'id and of his vizier Ghiyath al-Din.
