Abstract
(en) This paper aims to explore the role of legal teams, i.e. teams of activists legally supporting ecological civil disobedience actions in Belgium and elsewhere in Europe. It is based on participant observation within a legal team prior to an environmental civil disobedience action and a corpus of semi-structured interviews with members of the Legal Team Collective in Belgium. The paper shows the context of the legal team phenomenon and how these teams constitute ’support structures’ (Charles Epp) for the climate justice movement driven by the ’grassroots’ of civil society. It also explores how legal teams work, their questions and fears in the face of the forces of law and order, and how they relate to 'law in action'.
