War and religion seem to be inextricably intertwined. Even the Bible, the 'holy Scripture' on which both Jews and Christians rely, is bulging with violent war passages. However varied this Biblical violence may be, the common thread running through it seems to be God: in the majority of Biblical texts, he already gives his implicit or explicit support to it, if he is not the instigator, principal or even subject of it. A reflection on the relationship between war, God and the Bible should therefore be at least as multicoloured and nuanced as the way the Bible brings up violence, divine or otherwise.
