“Start small, act consistently, and watch as your reflective journey transforms into professional recognition.” This practice-oriented presentation will equip university language teachers with actionable strategies to foster professional growth and showcase their teaching impact effectively. Combining self-coaching methods, reflective practices and evidence collection tools and strategies, this presentation provides a clear pathway for gaining recognition through the HEA, and can be applied to other internal promotion frameworks. Firstly, we will focus on fostering personal reflection by exploring tools for self-coaching. Using Gibb’s Reflective Cycle, we will explore structured prompts for self-reflection, enabling colleagues to critically assess their practices and set SMART goals for their promotion applications. Drawing on insights from James Clear’s Atomic Habits, we will also introduce habit-building strategies to help integrate reflection and evidence collection into busy academic routines. Secondly, we will focus on building a portfolio of evidence for future applications. We will explore ideas for quantitative and qualitative data to gather ahead of the application. Colleagues will also be provided with ready-to-use resources, including templates and online tools as well as actionable strategies to collect evidence, measure impact and align their contributions with HEA requirements. By fostering a culture of reflection and evidence-based practice, colleagues can enhance their teaching impact and advance their careers.
