This study introduces TravelKit, a Social Virtual Reality (VR) game designed to enhance L2 German speaking ability through collaborative missions. Speaking is highly challenging in L2 acquisition, often constrained by learner anxiety. TravelKit offers immersive, low-risk, and engaging environments for communicative practice. An exploratory mixed-methods study found that individual learner profiles mediated outcomes. Moderate-anxiety learners showed the most balanced gains , while high-anxiety learners struggled with cognitive overload. The findings emphasize that VR interventions must accommodate diverse profiles to manage anxiety and cognitive load. The main, expanded study is currently underway.
