(en) This article aims to shed light on Simone De Beauvoir’s method and philosophy for understanding women’s alienation and agency. First, the article exposes Beauvoir’s genealogical method to understand how “woman” could be considered as “the Other” of man. Then, it shows how Beauvoir displaces the Sartrean thesis of freedom in situation to criticize the alienation and domination suffered by women. Finally, this article examines Beauvoir’s solutions for women’s liberation.
