The literature on workplace ostracism has primarily focused on victims, with limited attention given to (1) organizations, (2) the identity of the perpetrator, and (3) observers. However, evidence suggests that these factors are critical for a comprehensive understanding of workplace ostracism. This dissertation aims to address these gaps by examining the relationship between workplace ostracism and organizational dehumanization. We explore this relationship from the victims’ perspective by: (1) investigating an underlying mechanism and its consequences; (2) extending the analysis beyond the workplace to include students in academic institutions; and (3) distinguishing between supervisor ostracism and coworker ostracism. Additionally, we adopt the perspective of observers to examine the relationship between witnessed workplace ostracism and organizational dehumanization, as well as the resulting consequences.
