This paper considers the problem of autotracking based on point matching with the Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera. There are two major components in the proposed system, which are the controller and the tracker. Based on PID adaptive control scheme, the controller steers the camera to perform pan/tilt motion at certain speed, and also gives the direction to zoom in or zoom out. The tracker performs the template matching for local point in two successive images in a small searched neighborhood, and estimates the position of the target. Results show that the proposed system can actively tracking the target in the typical surveillance application.
