Abstract
This paper presents the first results of our research in Ostia antica, where we have investigated several contexts from different periods by using a combination of different methods (VIL, XRF, Raman, NIR). Our aim is to identify workshop practices common to different paintings of the same time and to understand the transformations in the use of materials and techniques from the Rwpublic to the Late Antiquity. Our project involves the Parco archeologico di Ostia antica and colleagues from the universities of Aachen (Prof. Bernhard Blümich) and Stuttgart (Proff. Jürgen Frick and Judit Zölföldi).
