Untill recently, chivalric rituals at the court of Burgundy received only superficial attention, in terms of display or curiosities. Historians are now aware of the central place they took as tools of political and symbolic communication and as tools of network-building. We no longer consider those pageantries as mere decadent or nostalgic aristocratic events but as important rituals in the confrontation/collaboration process between prince and city and between prince and nobility. In November 2007, I intended to give a general view of this phenomena at the annual historical seminary of the Foundation Carlos de Amberes in Madrid (published in 2010), with a special attention for the organisers of the renowned « Pas d’armes ». The teams of knights and squires fighting with the organisers are less known figures. In this paper, I intend to study the career, personalities and networks of these secundary figures. Remarkable shifts in recruitment can be observed, along similar shifts in the scenario and location of the "Pas d'armes".
