Abstract
(en) The Mirror of the Ladies written by Bouton, most probably dedicated to the Duchess Mary of Burgundy, has chivalric and Marian tones, with possible ribald undertones. Through female exemplary characters (such as the Sibyls or the Nine Female Worthies) and a moral comparison between men and women, Bouton offers a praise of women in line with the Querelle des Femmes, although not devoid of irony and comforting the patriarchal order. The article is a development, following new research, from a paper given at the international conference "Les Miroirs des Dames au tournant du Moyen Âge et de la Renaissance", Boulogne-sur-Mer (France), 13-14 december 2018) . Published in January 2022.
