(en) The aim of this study was to explore and obtain a better understanding of therapists' personal and professional development and their training needs. Seven experienced therapists from different orientations were interviewed. The questions addressed focused on the significant events that had had an impact on their professional development and their perceptions of the profession and themselves. A thematic analysis of their interviews revealed several themes relating to their development as therapists: (1) personal and professional development and its fluctuating relationship to theory, (2) personal and professional development requires continuing education, and (3) personal and professional development and motivation to practice and choose this profession. The results of this study highlight the need to recognize and value personal development as an integral part of psychotherapists' professional development.
