- (en) This essay considers performativity in the light of sociocultural anthropology. Drawing on the theses developed by Bronisław Malinowski (Coral Gardens and their Magic, 1935), Claude Lévi-Strauss (« Symbolic Efficiency », 1949), and John Austin (How to Do Things with Words, 1962), it explores the connections between verbal act, magic, psychoanalysis, and poetry with a view to establishing what acts in speech. Through a study of the comparative affinities entertained by these practices, we refine the genealogy of the concept of speech act, complement the prehension of its felicity conditions and efficiency, and highlight its creative capacity.
