Abstract
Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) are forcing a reconfiguration of human-machine interactions (HMI). Initiated by cybernetics, this evolution has unfolded in three phases: standardization, automation, adaptability. Facilitating collaboration between design and computation, AI promotes hybridization networks between physical and digital worlds, where human and artificial cognitions interact to enhance creative and decision-making emulation. In architectural design, however, these networks are still underdeveloped. Yet, AI holds unprecedented cognitive potential and could be considered as a design partner. To unveil this potential, an analysis of hybrid design networks and a comparison of levels of human and artificial cognition are proposed using Bloom's taxonomy crossed with the Cattell-Horn-Carroll model.
