- Abstract
- This special issue focuses on the functions and impacts of communication in environmental politics both at the (sub)national level –for example, climate protests in the low countries, national-level energy policies, or local rewilding debates– and at the international level – for example, representations of the low countries in international meetings (e.g., the United Nations) or global impacts of decisions taken in the low countries. This special issue seeks to offer an interdisciplinary perspective on communication in environmental politics by considering insights from political science, on the one hand, and linguistics, on the other hand. contributions focus on discourse production by political actors (e.g. politicians, activists, media) and discourse reception by citizens and political actors. These discourses include –but are not restricted to– political speeches, media representations, and, for example, activists’ statements. Authors adopt several theoretical frameworks, such as frame analysis, political & policy narratives, evaluation and emotions, (critical) discourse (quality) analysis, cognitive perspectives, translation studies, corpus analysis, etc.
