Abstract
Archaeological research on the site of Aiano, led by the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) since 2005, uncovered the remains of a luxurious roman Villa datable between the end of the 3rd/beginning of the 4th century AD and the second half of the 6th/first half of the 7th century AD. The study of the glass finds from the 2005-2017 excavations allowed us to catalogue 1730 fragments. These are mostly tableware – beakers, goblets, bowls, flasks, bottles and jugs – dating back to the Late Antique/Early Middle Ages time. In order to contextualise them within the stratigraphic sequence of the site, we have proceeded to a more in-depth analysis on a selection of them. This has enabled us to highlight a few residual types; their presence may be linked to the collection of glass waste that, from the second quarter of the 6th century onwards, was re-melted and recycled using two little kilns.
