Abstract
CE includes the ability to take someone else’s perspective to understand their state of mind (Fortier et al., 2018). Research highlighted contradictory results about CE ability among offenders with PPD (Brooks & Kosson, 2013). Previous research used self-questionnaires, assessing offenders’ self-evaluation of their ability rather than their true ability. The aim of this study is to assess both CE self-evaluation ability and true ability among offenders with and without PDD. Preliminary sample is composed of 27 male forensic inpatients: ASPD (n = 16) and PPD (n = 11), assessed using a self-report questionnaire (IRI; Davis, 1980) and an experimental task (VPT-2; Surtees et al., 2012). Preliminary results suggest that PPD exhibit more insensitivity and difficulty to manage conflictual point of views than ASPD although no difference was found between the groups on their CE ability self-evaluation. These results sustain the added value of experimental task in offenders’ Social Cognition understanding.
