Abstract
This chapter looks into the industrial policy pursued by the US since its industrialization to understand the conditions that were necessary for its development. It will also analyze the extent to which industrial policy contributed to the emergence of US global dominant firms and the US’s technological edge, both of which affect the EU in key strategic industries. Finally, comparing with the case of the US is essential in order to identify the main factors underlying the weaknesses of the industrial policies pursued by the EU and its Member States, as the conclusion of the third section will show.
